Friday Idleness: Morphing Art
There’s a lot of dreck on YouTube, but every once in a while I’m made aware of something that is…I think…really good.
Shared with me by a friend, this YouTube animation called Women In Art blew me away.
First, I was envious of what its creator was able to do with whatever graphics/animation/morphing software they used. Second, and even moreso, I was impressed by the love of art that this person must have in order to have pulled this off as well as they did.
When you study the paintings — and the sequence in which they are presented — you can only assume that the animation’s creator had spent a lot of time studying these paintings. (Even the piece of classical music they chose to accompany this was a successful choice.)
Additional kudos to the creator for providing a link to the list of the artists and paintings featured in the animation, and info about the piece of music they used.

Very clever! And very similar to “Women in Film” also on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEc4YWICeXk
It’s probably not that hard to do with the right sort of software. Back in 2000 I worked for a company that made software that converted 2D images/film into 3D. Using keyframing, interpolation etc. it’s easy enough to do these sorts of transitions. But it still takes time getting the images together, deciding the sequence etc.
